Will It Be Sunny Today?

Will It Be Sunny Today?

2020.05.22

I made a weather app the other day! Here's a rundown of what I was thinking about while making it.

◎ Concept

A cute weather app that lets you know today's weather from bed, without even opening the curtains when you wake up. At a glance, you can see the current weather and how the weather will change throughout the rest of the day.

So with that in mind, here's what I came up with.

Today's Weather Graphics

◎ What I Paid Attention To

Here's the flow I designed for the app.

First, you can check the current weather right away! ↓ A graph shows you how it'll change over the course of the day! ↓ If you're curious, you can also check this week's weather!

So the information gets broader and broader as you go. I designed the graph with colors that let you sense the temperature intuitively at a glance.

◎ I Didn't Realize Prototypes Could Move Like This...!

Here is the prototype.

I personally love the smooth motion and the little "shupo" sound effect when refreshing Twitter, and I often end up refreshing Twitter absentmindedly.

Feeling good while using something is really important, isn't it? I think motion matters a lot, so I designed while imagining "I want it to move like this," and I also try to borrow motion ideas I find appealing from various services I use day to day, to bring into future designs.

What I Want to Try Next

I wanted to make something with motion, something clean, and something with a bit of character, but it turned out to be pretty hard to give a weather app real character. Looking back at it, I feel like it ended up resembling the iPhone weather app quite a bit... Going forward, I want to keep referencing various apps while still creating something with its own original appeal.
